The Project
The 17th International Conference on Scintillating Materials and their Applications – SCINT 2024 -washeld July 8-12, 2024 at the University of Milan-Bicocca, in Milan, Italy.
This exclusively in-person event welcomed about 230 scientists from 24 countries, with significant student participation (25 percent).
The conference covered topics fundamental to the development of scintillators, such as scintillation mechanisms, their characterization, crystal growth, optical ceramics and hybrid materials, highlighting their
applications in various fields, including scientific research, medical diagnostics, energy and industry.
The conference
SCINT 2024 offered a high-level scientific program, including 5 plenary papers, 10 keynote lectures, 65 oral presentations and 120 posters, displayed during a dedicated session throughout the week.
The papers presented will be published in IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, subject to peer-review.
During the conference, two awards were given to young researchers for the best oral and poster presentations.
In addition, a free Summer School for Young Researchers was held on July 6 and 7, with more than 70 participants, organized with the support of the European projects SPARTE, TWISMA and UNICORN, during which lectures by experts in the field and presentations of students’ work were offered.
The results
In addition to the rich scientific program, on July 10 participants had the opportunity to take part in guided excursions to different cities, divided into groups, fostering interaction and exchange among colleagues.
The following day, July 11, a social dinner was held in the striking Chiostri dell’Umanitaria in Milan, offering another moment of informal discussion.
